The first Survivor Series, held in 1987, came on the heels of the success of WrestleMania III, as the then-WWF began to see the lucrative potential of the pay-per-view market. TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs
The event was established in 2009, replacing Armageddon in the December slot of WWE's pay-per-view calendar. However, the concept of the show is based on the primary matches of the card each containing a stipulation utilizing tables, ladders and/or chairs as legal weapons.
TLC was announced as a Raw exclusive event in 2016.

The event was established in 2016 debuting in March on WWE's pay-per-view calendar. The event's name was a reference to its position on the "Road to WrestleMania".
