(Witty Title)

So, today is a very special day because the new year is at our doorstep, just about to ring a bell and so on. But I've decided that screw the New Year's Eve, I'm going to write something about Rome.

And that is the fall of the Roman Empire, and more specificly the sacking of the city itself.

Lets focus on the one from the year 410 A.D. .

So it was commonly known at the time that the great Empire is falling and the barbarians (in that case Visigoths) are at the gates, as many diffirent invasions and armies were quite frankly all over the shop, but it was yet a surprise for everyone when the city of Rome fell to the Goths. Especially, that it wasn't even the Empire's capitol (it was moved to Ravenna in 402 A.D.).

The sack itself didn't happen the first time the Visigoths saw the city; there were three invasions before that. First, the Roman population, besieged and encircled, had to give away every single pund of silver, gold, furs etc. as well as the barbarian slaves.

The second invasion despite not getting the Goths any treasures weakened Rome with famines and months of starvation, Barbarians didn't finish the siege, because they marched towards Ravenna, which remained untouched so far.

The third siege resulted in the city being sacked and vastly damaged by the barbarians, as the imperial forces were not capable of anything. It destroyed the only damaged economy of the Western Roman Empire. And the western world continued to slip into decline.

And that's pretty much it for today.
See you next time.

The World's Most Outdated News Channel And It's Epic Trip Abroad

Welcome one, welcome all to the greatest history blog you will ever find!
Today, we shall embark on an adventure to the Roman Empire, as the 31st of December is the day, when a barbarian army, a force of 80k men crossed the Rhein at Mainz.

One may think, that the barbarians crossing the Rhein is not special in any way. After all the empire was in decline for quite a while at that point. But the Rheins was one of the safest borders, that the Roman Empire had, and while it was commonly known that the western world collapses, many still hoped that at least a part of it may endure. The crossing was a proof, that such a thing is not very likely to happen, Furthermore, the crossing was followed by three uprisings in today's France, and presumably a lot of pillaging, raping, murdering and so on. The year 406 A.D was rather unpleasant for the romans, indeed,

But from the brighter news, the Byzantine Empire managded to reclaim Sicily from the Ostrogoths. The Eastern Roman Empire didn't hold it's "reclaimed" western provinces for too long, but it was something!

Many more things happened on that day but none of them took place in the ancient world and hence that is all for today!

Many thanks for reading and see ya!

The Most Outdated News Channel Runs Away From The Russian Cannons And Yells Something About The French Army But Everyone Is Too Busy Fleeing To Listen

Greetings Travelers!
Today is the day when i write about things that happened the day before because that's not going to cunfuse anyone right?

So.....let's get on with the show!

On the 29th of October 1812 A.D the Napoleon's Armee Grande crossed the Berezina river, making it's way towards Moscow. For the one's who know absolutely nothin' about history, here's a bit of a backstory.

So in 1812 Napoleon Bonaparte decided that he's tired of the slavic people constantly breaking the great embargo and he marched against Russia with over 600k men. Russians panicked and retreated as quickly as they could while burning everything they couldn't take.

After many months Napolen, now followed by sth around 200k men took over Moscow, yet tsar said that Russia shall not concede and shall fight for as long as it's wide. Bonaparte did not want to face the Russian forces in the critically low temperatures, so he retreated his Armee Grande.

Russian's took advantage of that and kept pushing French units back on to the road they came in; it became a baron wasteland after the Russians used their efficient yet expensive tactic.

What happened after the French finally crossed Russian borders I shall not write as it's a huge topic and it'd be great if you did some research yourself.

And that's it for today so good luck conquering Moscow!

The Most Outdated News Channel Brings New Hope As The English Civil War Doesn't Seem To Be Anywhere Close To Finishing

Greetings!
Today I shall write about the English Civil War, as this day is the day when Charles II, the leader of one of the fighring sides was captured.

It all started when queen Elizabeth I died and left no heir to the throne. The English Parliament scared of many things that could possibly happen to the kingdom without a proper head of state, decided to join a personal union with Scotland and accepted James I as the new king.

And then, a few years later(in 1642 A,D,), the English once again yelled "Long live the king!", this time at Charles I. Poor lad didn't really know how the thing are done in England and quickly decided to strenghten his office. The English Parliament got annoyed and in within a few next years the terrible civil war started,

Long story short the Parliament won (in 1651A.D.!) thanks to the great dictator Oliver Cromwell, just to accept another Scottish monarch around a decade and a half later.

From the a bit less English news,  Pope Gregory XII was elected back in the 1406. Yes, the same one who participated in the counterreformation,

And now the sad news, as Charles XII, king of Sweden died today in 1718, during the Northern War (1700-1721). The war was fought by Russia, Prussia, Denmark and Poland against Sweden and the coalition's goal was to stop the Swedish Dominus Mare Baltici.

And the last incredible, amaizing, shocking and so on piece of information is that Winston Churchill was born today. Happy birthday to the admiral and Prime Minister of England!

The Very Unspecial Edition Of World's Oldest News Channel!

On this spooky day in history!

In the long-gone times when nobody even knew that something like halloween'd existed people still had fun on this day. In 1517 , for example, A.D. Martin Luther pinned his list of reforms onto the door of the Wittenberg church; he sure was full of joy and the church was spooked out like never before.

You may be wandering why would someone do such a thing..... So in the XVI century reneissance was all over the place promoting science, trying to throw the church off it's golden throne with arguments and stuff. But the pope and friends responded with mass violence, approved by most of the countries. But as time went along,  some of the masses were getting more and more unsatisfied with the new policy, and it seemed like only a little blaze was needed for the whole powder keg to explode. And Martin Luther's thesis on the church was just enough.

But it's not like a bit of paper on a church can start a revolution. The proper protest began when some of the little monarchies belonging to the Reich accepted Luther's thesis and their new official belief, which led to some nasty things later. But you can go and read about it yourself :D.

Martin Luther and his fancy cap

AND NOW

The weird things.

Which aren't even weird because this day is quite boring.

Except of the "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes " (by Arthur Conan Doyle) being published in 1892 A.D.

Also the UK and France declared war on Turkey in 1914 but as we all know the Turkish didn't do that much anyways. And the war was already going in Europe for a short while as well.

Then the last succesful cavalry charge was performed by the 4th Australian Light Horse in 1917. I don't really know why but it doesn't surprize me in any way. Like the fact that they were Australian. It just sounds like a thing they'd do.

And for the last thing; Mussolini was elected the Prime Minister of Italy.

Thats it for today and if you expected some scary stuff then well.....the last point was pretty scary for me.

The Most Outdated News Channel Returns!

24 Ocotber in history!
We've all heard stories from the old times of the cold war. Spies, arms race, development of the nuclear weapons and so on. Some of them real, some of them made for propaganda, some just made up for people's fun. But I'm going to tell you about an actual story from that period.
About the Cuban Missle Crisis.

*Kennedy among his co-workers in the White House.*
For 13 days the world has been holding it's breath, as the two greatest superpowers of that period were deciding whether to settle down, or to set the world aflame. And it all started with the USA, making some shady deals with Turkey and Italy, so that some fresh american missiles could be aimed at the USSR from Asia Minor and the shoe-shaped penisula.

As soon as the Soviets "read the news", they decided to place their missiles on Cuba (90 miles away from Florida). The USA responded with a naval blockade of the island and demanded, from the Soviets to immediately remove all of their rockets from Cuba.

Then the 13 days of negotiatons happened and as a result of that, the Yanks agreed  to never invade Cuba and to remove their missiles from Italy and Turkey, while  the Soviets agreed to take their rockets out of Cuba.

And that's the happy ending of the story. Yay.

Now it's time for the slightly less important stuff!

So lets begin with a spanish soldier, who claimed that he teleported from the Philippines to Mexico. According to what the Spanish investigators noted, he mysteriously found himself in Mexico City right after the governor of the islands was killed. It happened in 1593.

In 1648 the Treaty of Westphalia was signed, ending the 30 Years War and making Switzerland an independent country. Happy Independence Day Switzerland!

In 1795 the 3rd partition of Poland happened, erasing the poor country from maps untill the end of the Great War.

In 1856 the South Australian constitution was signed. And in 1922 the Irish goverment adopted the Irish Free State's constitution. A lot of constitutions indeed.

In 1945 the UN charter was signed, replacing the useless, old League of Nations.

Writing this post made me want to teleport to Mexico City.

30th September in history!

TODAY IN HISTORY (30th september)

Propably the most important thing that happened today (or on that day if you're reading it later) is signing of the Munich Agreement.

But first of all, what was the Munich Agreement?

In 1938 Hitler driven forward by his previous succeces decided to issue an ultimatum towards Czechoslovakia. In said ultimatum he threatened, that if the Czechoslovakian goverment didn't agree to give  Sudetenland to Germany, he would've started a war. At the same time Hitler's ministers were doing all they could to justify that action, mostly by saying that Nazi Germany is uniting and protecting it's citizens.

Czech goverment was ready to fight, despite it's rather small, when compared to Germany's army. Czech generals believed, that they could hold Sudetenland until the Allies attacked Hitler from the west. What they didn't know, is that both France and Great Britain didn't have armies strong enough to stop thee German aggression.

Annexed region was quite important for Czechoslovakia as there was a lot of industry in there, plus the mountains were a natural barrier between Czechoslovakia and Germany.

Hitler and Chamberlain in Munich, 1938.

Western countries (France and Great Britain) on the other hand knew their weaknesses and decided to hold a conference in Munich, where they decided to give Germans the Sudetenland , even though they told Czechoslovakian goverment that they were going to do all they could to keep Sudetenland Czech (our southern neighbours weren't even participating in the conference).  Some Czechs still call it "The Munich Betrayal". British prime minister on the other hand said that he was glad that the crisis was solved in a peaceful way and announced that it meant "peace in our time".

If you ever encounter somebody saying, that the agreement was signed on 29th of September then don't hate them because they are kind of right, as the whole thing is formaly dated for that day. Even though  it was actually signed in the early hours of 30.09.

And now, the happy news!

Happy 389th birthday Robinson Crusoe! (It's his "actual fictional"  date of birth not the date of releasing the book.)

 Robinson Crusoe book cover.

And congratulations to Selwyn Brothers for opening the Time Square Theatre in 1920! It used to be an amaizing place back in the day.

Well done Fritz von Opel for making the first manned rocket plane designed to fly (previous one was built to glide) in history in 1929! Quite a ground-breaking achievement.

And that's it for today!
