Greetings!
Today I shall write about the English Civil War, as this day is the day when Charles II, the leader of one of the fighring sides was captured.
It all started when queen Elizabeth I died and left no heir to the throne. The English Parliament scared of many things that could possibly happen to the kingdom without a proper head of state, decided to join a personal union with Scotland and accepted James I as the new king.
And then, a few years later(in 1642 A,D,), the English once again yelled "Long live the king!", this time at Charles I. Poor lad didn't really know how the thing are done in England and quickly decided to strenghten his office. The English Parliament got annoyed and in within a few next years the terrible civil war started,
Long story short the Parliament won (in 1651A.D.!) thanks to the great dictator Oliver Cromwell, just to accept another Scottish monarch around a decade and a half later.
From the a bit less English news, Pope Gregory XII was elected back in the 1406. Yes, the same one who participated in the counterreformation,
And now the sad news, as Charles XII, king of Sweden died today in 1718, during the Northern War (1700-1721). The war was fought by Russia, Prussia, Denmark and Poland against Sweden and the coalition's goal was to stop the Swedish Dominus Mare Baltici.
And the last incredible, amaizing, shocking and so on piece of information is that Winston Churchill was born today. Happy birthday to the admiral and Prime Minister of England!
