Purple Rain

'Purple Rain' is a song written and produced by Prince. It was featured on his album also called 'Puple Rain'. In fact, the whole album is the soundtrack for a film called the same. I think the song is well-known to most people and is one of the best numbers performed by Prince.

Who is Prince, you may ask? Well, he is a really famous singer, song-writer and actor from America. Obviously, 'Prince' is just a pseudonym, stage name. He has a lot of those. You may know him also as Jamie Starr, Alexander Nevermind, The Purple One, Joey Coco or Christopher. His real name is Prince Rogers Nelson. He was born on the 7th of June 1958, which makes him 56 by today. He has produced ten platinum albums, which let me tell you, is a lot, since he released thirty in his whole career. He's been nominated 33 times for a Grammys and he won 7 of those. This is a seriously big deal, every artist dreams of getting a Grammy award.

Okay, back to the song. 'Purple Rain' is a combination of rock, pop, gospel and orchestral music. It was released on the 26th of September 1984 and quickly reached US Billboard Hot 100 list. In fact, it debuted on number 2.

The film it was featured in was directed Albert Magnoli and written by Magnoli and William Blinn. It won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. It is also the only film starring Prince that he didn't direct himself.
